Coulomb scattering inducing time lag in strong-field tunneling ionization
We study ionization of atoms in strong elliptically-polarized laser fields.
We focus on the physical origin of the offset angle in the photoelectron
momentum distribution and its possible relation to a specific time. By
developing a model which is based on strong-field approximation and considers
the classical Coulomb scattering, we are able to quantitatively explain recent
attoclock experiments in a wide region of laser and atomic parameters. The
offset angle can be understood as arising from the scattering of the electron
by the ionic potential when the electron exits the laser-Coulomb-formed barrier
through tunneling. The scattering time is manifested as the Coulomb-induced
ionization time lag and is encoded in the offset angle.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Three-dimensional reconstruction of wear particles by multi-view contour fitting and dense point-cloud interpolation
Three-dimensional (3D) surfaces of wear particles were reconstructed through multi-view contour fitting and dense point-cloud interpolation with an aim to obtain comprehensive features for wear debris analysis. Multiple image frames at different views were captured when the particles move with rotations through a micro-sized flow channel. The particle contours were extracted from multi-view images to build a 3D model based on particle contour fitting. The 3D modeling accuracy was then improved through an interpolated dense point-cloud. To validate the 3D model, an experiment was carried out to compare its performance to that of results obtained using laser scanning confocal microscopy. The results show that the errors of quantitative surface characterization using the arithmetical mean height (Sa) and the root-mean-square height (Sq) are less than 5.86%, and less than 17.12% for the kurtosis (Sku). The proposed method has great potential values in online condition monitoring of wear particles
Laboratory and Field Assessments of Prey-Mediated Effects of Transgenic Bt Rice on Ummeliata insecticeps (Araneida: Linyphiidae)
One major concern regarding the release of Bt rice is its potential impact through tritrophic interactions on nontarget arthropods, especially natural enemies. We studied the effects of two Bt transgenic rice varieties, TT9- 3 and KMD1, expressing Cry1Ab/Cry1Ac and Cry1Ab, respectively, on a predatory ground spider [Ummeliata insecticeps (Bösenberg et Strand)] supplied with Bt rice-fed brown planthopper [Nilaparvata lugens (Stål)] nymphs. Although immunoassays confirmed that U. insecticeps ingested Bt insecticidal protein when supplied with Bt rice-fed N. lugens, no negative effects were found on its survival and development. Furthermore, the fecundity of U. insecticeps fed prey reared on Bt rice was not significantly different from that of those fed prey reared on non-Bt rice. A 3-yr field trial indicated that Bt rice did not significantly affect the population density of U. insecticeps in comparison with non-Bt rice. Vortex avalanches and self organized criticality in superconducting niobium
In 1993 Tang proposed [1] that vortex avalanches should produce a self
organized critical state in superconductors, but conclusive evidence for this
has heretofore been lacking. In the present paper, we report extensive
micro-Hall probe data from the vortex dynamics in superconducting niobium,
where a broad distribution of avalanche sizes scaling as a power-law for more
than two decades is found. The measurements are combined with magneto-optical
imaging, and show that over a widely varying magnetic landscape the scaling
behaviour does not change, hence establishing that the dynamics of

Dynamical charge density fluctuations pervading the phase diagram of a Cu-based high-Tc superconductor
Charge density waves are a common occurrence in all families of high critical
temperature superconducting cuprates. Although consistently observed in the
underdoped region of the phase diagram and at relatively low temperatures, it
is still unclear to what extent they influence the unusual properties of these
systems. Using resonant x-ray scattering we carefully determined the
temperature dependence of charge density modulations in
(Y,Nd)BaCuO for three doping levels. We discovered
short-range dynamical charge density fluctuations besides the previously known
quasi-critical charge density waves. They persist up to well above the
pseudogap temperature T*, are characterized by energies of few meV and pervade
a large area of the phase diagram, so that they can play a key role in shaping

Impacts of Six Bt Rice Lines on Nontarget Rice Feeding Thrips Under Laboratory and Field Conditions
Nontarget impacts of six transgenic Bt rice lines (expressing the Cry1Ab or Cry1Ab/Cry1Ac protein) on the thrips, Stenchaetothrips biformis (Bagnall), attacking the rice seedling and tillering stages, were evaluated under laboratory and field conditions. Laboratory results showed relatively longer larval, pupal development and preoviposition durations of S. biformis. Although it had a shorter oviposition period, female adult longevity and less total laid eggs were found when fed on some tested Bt rice in comparison to non-Bt controls. S. biformis population dynamics in Bt and non-Bt plots were monitored using the plastic bag and beat plate methods. In the field, the temporal patterns of S. biformis population changes were similar between tested Bt rice lines and their respective control; however, the total number of S. biformis individuals collected from the Bt plots were significantly less or the same, varying from variety to variety, compared with those from the non-Bt plots. ELISA results showed that the Bt insecticidal protein could be transferred from Bt rice to the thrips, and the concentrations of the protein in rice leaves and thrips were not significantly correlated with some important biological parameters of the thrip. In addition, the potential effects of Bt rice on the abundance of S. biformis candidate predators are also discussed. In conclusion, our results show that the six Bt rice lines assessed may be less preferable host plants to S. biformis at the individual and population levels in comparison to the non-Bt rice plant
Constitutive relationship of TC4 titanium alloy based on back propagating (BP) neural network (NN)
Using Gleeble-3800 thermal simulation testing machine, the TC4 titanium alloy was subjected to hot compression experiments under the conditions of deformation temperature of 810 – 950 °C, strain rate of 0.001 - 1s-1. The research shows that the flow stress of TC4 titanium alloy is more sensitive to the deformation temperature and strain rate during thermal deformation, and it increases with the decrease of the deformation temperature and the increase of the strain rate. Based on BP neural network, a constitutive model of TC4 titanium alloy α+β two-phase region is established. The correlation coefficient reaches 0,996, which proves that the model can predict the high temperature flow stress of TC4 titanium alloy
